Profit Sharing Preschools?

☕Today’s Issue Read Time: About 1/2 a cup of coffee (4-5 minutes)
🛍️Don’t forget to take our poll of “What’s Your Favorite Swag” at the end!
Betting Big: We all know that the Super Bowl is one of America’s greatest traditions. After a much anticipated game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, fans were expected to shatter the prior year’s record with $1.39B spent on legal gambling. With bets ranging from $1 to $800,000, football fans took their chances. We didn’t even cover all the side bets and rumors of Travis Kelce proposing to Taylor Swift. But after losing to the Eagles with a final score of 40 to 22, it looks like there were no rings exchanged (for either the Super Bowl or engagement).

ECE Spotlights and Opportunities
Expanding Corporate Childcare: The landscape for childcare needs and providers has been shifting and companies are taking notice. That’s why the US Chamber of Commerce launched a new initiative with Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) to help expand access for employer-sponsored childcare.
The new platform, Employer Childcare Navigator helps companies partner with local childcare providers to secure spots for their employees. The new initiative provides new and unique opportunities to expand your childcare services and is offered by state. Interested in becoming a vendor partner? Here is the link to the form that only takes a couple of minutes!
Super Local Brand Awareness: Imagine Early Learning Centers did things a bit differently to help drive their growth to 12 centers. Their director of curriculum, AnneMarie Robley, shares some of their unique strategies that helped build a highly recognized local brand across New York and New Jersey. We highlighted two quick examples below because we thought they were cool ideas! But you can listen to the whole interview here!
📊Partner with local businesses: Help secure spots for local businesses so their employees can have reliable care. This builds community trust.
📚Branded books at local offices: Invest in small books that are branded to your center and leave those in doctors’, dentists’, or other local offices to build local brand awareness.
Parents are in tune with what’s happening locally. They will notice if you’re helping take care of your community!
Employee-Owned Centers - Is it the Right Fit for You?
Staffing is on everyone’s mind. That is why several childcare center owners and companies started to offer different types of employee ownership programs to align employees’ interests with the business. Here is a quick list of options childcare owners are using.
1. Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
🔹 How It Works: A company sets up a trust to hold shares for employees, who gain ownership over time. Employees typically receive stock as a retirement benefit and cash out when they leave.
2. Worker Cooperatives
🔹 How It Works: Employees collectively own and control the company. Each worker-owner has an equal vote in decision-making, and profits are shared.
3. Profit-Sharing Plans
🔹 How It Works: Employers share a portion of company profits with employees, usually as a bonus or contribution to a retirement plan. Employees do not own stock.
Setting these up will require the help of a CPA and attorney so it may not be the right fit. However, are you are using any of these tools? If so, let us know and share your thoughts by emailing us at [email protected]!
The Internet is a Playground
🗓️ On this Day in History: After serving 27 years in prison, Nelson Mandela was released, and he subsequently began negotiations with President F.W. de Klerk that ended apartheid in South Africa.
😷Pee-Ew: Looks like people are lining up to get a whiff of the rare corpse flower in Australia. After working with kids for so long, I think we’ll pass…
💸Yikes! That’s Expensive: A Stradivarius violin sold for $11.3M on Friday. I wonder if actually sounds any different!?
❤️ Aww, That’s Sweet!: Cuddly walrus kisses.
