April Fools Doesn’t Always Go As Planned: Some historians think that April Fools started all the way back in 1582 when France switched over to the Gregorian calendar, which changed New Year’s Day from April 1 to January 1. As any changes back then took some time to reach people (with no email, horses and letters took a really really long time) so a lot of people didn’t know about the new New Years Day. So, naturally, those who didn’t get the memo were made fun of. 🤭 The tradition continues to this day. But it’s not all fun and games and companies like to play pranks as well. Apparently, back in 1998, Burger King put out an ad saying they created a special Whopper for left-handed people. Well, it created a craze that the company wasn’t ready for. A flood of people flocked to their local Burger Kings for the left-handed Whopper and weren’t ready for it. Ooops. But it might be better than France’s change that may have resulted in some people going to the guillotine. We hope not. But here’s a link to some of the April Fool’s pranks that went wrong. 12 April Fools Pranks that went wrong.

Parent Preferences Are Changing
KinderCare Learning Companies, Inc., a leading provider of early childhood education, has unveiled 🎤 its sixth annual KinderCare Confidence Index, highlighting growing concerns among parents regarding access to child care in the US. This research was done in partnership with The Harris Poll. The 2025 survey underscores the profound impact of child care challenges on family dynamics and career progression. And now parents are valuing access to childcare more than raises. If that doesn’t say it all, we don’t know what does. Here are the key findings.
Employer Support for Child Care: A significant 76% of parents believe that employers should help with child care costs for their employees. 59% of parents would prefer their employer subsidize child care expenses over receiving a salary increase, marking a 10% rise from the previous year's survey. Additionally, 54% express concern that their company might reduce child care benefits in the future as a cost-cutting measure, also reflecting a 10% increase from 2024. That’s a big jump! 😳
Return-to-Office Challenges: Many working parents are transitioning back to in-person or hybrid work, nearly two-thirds report that return-to-office mandates have complicated child care needs. And companies are not allowing a lot of time for the families to find the care they need.
Gender Pay Gap Concerns: The survey reveals that 71% of parents attribute the gender pay gap to insufficient child care support in the country. 53% worry 😰 they may need to scale back their careers to manage parenting responsibilities, and 46% hope that future generations of women won't have to leave the workforce due to child care challenges.
Discrepancy in Benefit Prioritization: There is a big gap between parental expectations and employer perceptions: 43% of parents consider child care benefits crucial, whereas only 33% of Chief Human Resource Officers share this view. This gap suggests an opportunity for employers to better address employee needs by offering tailored family care benefits, such as employer-sponsored child care.
Jessica Harrah, Chief People Officer at KinderCare Learning Companies, emphasized the critical role of quality child care in achieving work-life integration for modern families. She focused on the industry’s commitment to collaborating with policymakers, communities, and employers nationwide to develop innovative solutions addressing this pressing need.
Details are important! 📊 The 2025 KinderCare Confidence Index surveyed 2,504 parents with children aged 12 and under between November 21 and December 2, 2024. The findings highlight a growing demand for comprehensive child care solutions and support from both employers and the government, with 45% of parents advocating for federally supported universal child care in the future.
These insights show the increasing importance parents place on accessible, high-quality child care and the pivotal role employers can play in supporting their workforce's family needs. Want the full report? Here is the link! Parent Survey
What Can You Do?
There is a lot that can be done help families and position your centers. The main thing we researched is to provide new flexible arrangements.
Expanding Flexible and Hybrid Care Models
With parents working hybrid schedules, providers are offering part-time and drop-in care options instead of rigid full-time enrollment.
Some centers are extending evening and weekend hours to accommodate non-traditional work schedules.
There’s a rise in backup child care programs, allowing parents to access care on short notice.
Being able to be more flexible can help you boost enrollment, better manage staffing and drive accessibility!
